The Springfield-Greene County Library District will celebrate the reopening and 120th birthday of the Midtown Carnegie Branch Library, located at 397 E. Central St., from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., on Saturday, Sept. 27.  The branch was closed for extensive renovations and has recently reopened to the public.

The public is invited to enjoy activities for children, teens and adults all day. At 1 p.m., Local History and Genealogy Manager Brian Grubbs will give a brief presentation: Community Cornerstone: Building the Public Library, followed by a tour of the historic building. Refreshments and live music will begin at 4 p.m. Patrons are encouraged to dress in their favorite decade for a chance to win a prize. Community members can also sign up for a free library card.

Midtown Carnegie Branch Manager Eva Pelkey added, “We are excited to celebrate the historic Midtown Carnegie Branch Library's 120 years of service to our community. Many Springfieldians have fond memories of visiting this library over the years. We hope they will come see the renovations and join us in celebrating this community institution.”

This event is generously sponsored by the Friends of the Library and the Library Foundation.
