The Most Important Word

Your toddler probably has a favorite word -- and it isn't 'no!' The most important word to her is her name. She enjoys hearing it and soon she will enjoy looking at it. Her name symbolizes who she is and will likely be the first word she recognizes. Create an All About Me book for her that has her picture and name on the front. Inside, list her favorite things along with her name on each page. It is a fun way to bond and show her how special her name is!

New Versions of Classic Songs

While it's true that singing the same songs and rhymes is great for your children, sometimes we need something a little different. Fortunately, there are lots of adaptations of familiar songs! Creative authors have adapted traditional songs and rhymes to reflect different cultures and sometimes just for fun. Go to the Library to discover some retellings and then see if you can create your own!

Explore Books!

Babies need to be able to play with board books with their hands and even their mouths. When they are allowed to hold, shake and turn a book in their hands, they are engaging in important work! Babies are figuring out how books work - which way is up and how to turn the pages. Sharing books with babies is an important first step in helping them develop a natural interest and love of reading!

About Racing to Read

Early literacy is what children know about reading and writing before they learn how to read and write. Reading, talking, singing, and playing with children from birth make learning to read easier!
