Outreach Services
At the Springfield-Greene County Library District, we believe the Library should belong to all of us — not just those who can walk through the doors of a branch. Everyone deserves access to the Library!
That’s why our Outreach Services team works every day to deliver books, programs, and connections across Greene County — reaching children, families, older adults, and isolated individuals who would otherwise go without.

Bringing the Library to Everyone
From the child at a preschool hearing a story for the first time, to the older adult in a care facility who hasn’t held a book in months — Outreach Services transform lives in places traditional library access can’t always reach.

The Mobile Library, delivering books and resources to underserved neighborhoods
Walking Books, a hand-delivered lifeline of reading and connection for homebound patrons
Facility Collections at over 65 partner sites, including shelters and assisted living centers
Youth outreach programs, inspiring a love of reading for thousands of children and teens
Family literacy kits, pop-up libraries, and StoryWalks® that build a culture of reading at home
Senior programs that combat loneliness and keep minds sharp through stories and shared memories
Why Your Support Matters
Library outreach is one of the most equitable, impactful ways to meet people where they are — both physically and in life. But it’s also one of the most resource-intensive areas of our work.
Unlike traditional library services, outreach relies on transportation and maintenance of our Mobile Library, a constant refresh and delivery of materials to partner sites, dedicated staff time for planning, travel, and engagement, and specialized kits, program materials, and literacy tools.
When you support the Outreach Department through the Library Foundation, your gift fuels the vans, fills the bookshelves, and funds the team that makes Outreach happen. You’re not just giving to a program — you’re delivering knowledge, comfort, and joy to someone who truly needs it.
