About the Midtown Branch

At more than 120 years old, the Midtown Carnegie Branch is a beloved landmark that blends historic beauty with modern purpose. As Springfield’s original Carnegie library, its stately architecture and rich heritage anchors our community’s literary past.

Today, we serve the Midtown neighborhood and Springfield’s center city with critical access to technology, educational programs, and inclusive services for all. From community members using public computers to children participating in exciting storytime programming, every visitor benefits from its presence. Midtown’s unique location and large teen area offers a safe and welcoming space for nearby high school and college students to read, engage and study.

Midtown’s Maker Space is open to all library patrons and offers a creative outlet for all ages including 3D scanning and printing, laser engraving and sublimation and digitization equipment. This technologically rich environment allows patrons to use equipment otherwise inaccessible to the general public.

Additionally, Midtown is home to the Library System’s Computer Training Center, which offers free computer skills training in a classroom setting as well as individualized appointments. Patrons can receive one-on-one help with their technology needs including software, smartphones, and other tech challenges. Additionally, the Computer Training Center is home to the Foundation Directory, where nonprofit grant seekers can research grant opportunities at no cost and with librarian support.

Your donation helps preserve this iconic building while investing in some of the most exciting programs in the Springfield-Greene County Library District —ensuring it remains a vibrant and accessible community resource for generations to come.
