The new Republic Branch Library opened to the public on Monday, Feb. 2, at 8:30 a.m. The Springfield-Greene County Library District broke ground on the new 22,000-square-foot library in January 2025 on the same land as the former branch at 921 N. Lindsey Ave. The new Library doubles the size of the former branch by adding dedicated children and teen spaces, a Business Connect Center, a 150-seat community room and a Maker Space. There is even a walking path, off the patio, with a Storywalk®.
The $11.1 million project was designed by Paragon Architecture and constructed by Nabholz Construction. The Library District used American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding, donations and library reserves to fund the project. The décor is designed to bring the outdoors in, with an emphasis on natural elements.
The library’s drive-up window will be open from 7:30 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Friday and from 9:30 a.m.-6 p.m. on Saturdays. The Library will be open from 8:30 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Friday and from 9:30 a.m.-6 p.m. on Saturdays. The Library District added 10 new employees to staff the new building.
Executive Director Ed Walton stated, “We are excited to open this new facility to the growing Republic community. We believe it will be an outstanding, enriching space that will benefit all ages. We expect a great turnout as we officially cut the ribbon in June to kick off the Summer Reading Program.”
