The Springfield-Greene County Library Foundation Receives Grant for Accessible Changing Table

Springfield, MO - The Springfield-Greene County Library Foundation has received a $16,550 grant from Abilities First to install an accessible changing table in the Library Center family restroom, which is being constructed as part of the Hatch Auditorium project. The Foundation, which supports the Library District, seeks funding opportunities that align with the District’s needs. 

Planning and Development Librarian Katie Hopkins shared, “We don't ever want someone's library trip to be cut short (or never take place to begin with) because of personal hygiene concerns and lack of access to clean, private facilities to address toileting needs of individuals in their care.” Hopkins continued, “As a community leader, the Springfield-Greene County Library District hopes the addition of this changing table will create a more welcoming environment to all of our patrons and visitors and also set an example for our community partners of the value of this type of offering.”

Library Executive Director Ed Walton added, “The Springfield-Greene County Library District collaborates with numerous local organizations to provide programming and services. This is yet another example of how our community pulls together to make great things happen.”

The Hatch Auditorium, located at The Library Center, is currently under construction and will be available for library and community events upon completion. The project is funded in part by American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds, private gifts and the Library District. The Auditorium is on track to open in late 2025.
