Springfield, MO – The Friends of the Library announced on Sunday, Sept. 21, that this year’s Fall Book Sale netted $206,739.50, making it the third-highest sale ever. The Friends of the Library organization was founded to support the Springfield-Greene County Library District. The Friends sorted, inspected, priced, boxed and unboxed six tractor-trailers full of books for this sale.
Combined with the Spring 2025 Book Sale, the total raised this year is $411,479.35. Since 1985, the Friends of the Library book sales have raised nearly $6 million. The book sales started in the Midtown Carnegie Branch Library parking lot and are now at the E*Plex at the Ozarks Empire Fairgrounds. Executive Director Ed Walton said, “The Friends of the Library make it possible for our District to offer the outstanding programs and services our community enjoys. Their dedication and tireless volunteer work go above and beyond, and we are deeply grateful.”
Proceeds from the bi-annual sale fund special adult programs, the Summer Reading Program, Wee Read, which distributes books through the Parents as Teachers program and many other library necessities. The Friends of the Library recently made a generous $500,000 gift to the Republic Branch Library’s construction project.
The public can donate used items at any of the ten open library branches during business hours. If you have any questions about donating, call 417-616-0554 or email friends@thelibrary.org. The next sale will be April 29-May 3, 2026, at the E*Plex at the Ozarks Empire Fairgrounds.
