The Springfield-Greene County Library District’s Friends of the Library set a new sales record and surpassed $6 million in total funds raised during last week’s book sale. The sale started with a great preview sale on Tuesday, which broke the $6 million mark and set the stage for another great week of sales. The Friends have coordinated book sales for the District since 1985. Most items sold at the biannual sale are donated by the community, but Friends volunteers spend countless hours sorting, cleaning, pricing, and boxing the books and other items.

Then, after wrapping up the final day of the sale, the Friends announced their highest Book Sale total to date, $220,326.90 — despite severe weather early in the week and competing Route 66 celebration events.

Library Executive Director Ed Walton said, The Friends of the Library make an extraordinary difference in our community. Their commitment and tireless support have resulted in record-breaking contributions to the Library District. These funds will help us deliver meaningful programs that serve the evolving needs of Greene County.”
