Unattended Children

The Library staff cannot assume responsibility for children left unattended on Library property. Unattended children can disrupt Library service. Any behavior that is disruptive to Library use violates the Library's General Conduct Policy.

While on Library property, children nine years old and under (and those requiring supervision) must be in the physical presence and supervision of a responsible adult (defined as a parent, guardian, teacher or assigned caregiver who is at least 16 years of age).

If a child or responsible adult violates Library General Conduct Policy or Unattended Children Policy, the child and responsible adult may be asked to leave the Library.

If a responsible adult cannot be located, Library staff will contact the appropriate agencies, which may include emergency medical services, law enforcement agencies or the Missouri Department of Social Services–Children's Division.

Youth After Closing

The Library staff cannot assume responsibility for children left unattended on Library property. Any behavior that is disruptive to Library use violates the Library's General Conduct Policy.

Children 15 years old and under (and those requiring supervision) may not be left unattended on Library property after the Library closes.

Children must make arrangements for transportation a minimum of 20 minutes prior to closing.

If transportation is not available at the time of closing, Library staff will contact the appropriate agencies, which may include emergency medical services, law enforcement agencies or the Missouri Department of Social Services–Children's Division.
