Library Closures Policy

Although some situations may require reduced staffing, altered hours of operation, or the complete closure of one or more branches, all reasonable attempts will be made to keep libraries open during weather-related or unplanned situations. In such cases, employees may be asked to work at locations or workstations not normally assigned.


All decisions to alter operating hours are made by, or in consultation with, the Executive Director (or designees). The Library will communicate closure information to employees via the Closing Hotline (417-616-0620) and electronic resources. Employees are responsible for calling the Closing Hotline for information on closures or delayed openings. Patrons will be informed of closings or late openings via electronic resources, the closing hotline, social media, website and signage.


Staff who were scheduled to work when a branch is closed will be paid for the hours they were scheduled to work.  If a branch is not closed but a staff member cannot make it to work, they shall use vacation or PTO to cover the hours of the scheduled shift missed.
