Summer Reading Program Activities for Teens
Adventure Begins at Your Library! Complete at least 8 activities—you can choose from our list or create your own! Feel free to repeat any of theses activities and adapt them to fit your needs.

Activities
Create a short video of your favorite scene from a book.
Attend a library program.
Look closely at an object that appears to be a solid color. Is it really all one color? How did the color form on the object? Did it grow that way or was it dyed? Share what you think with someone else.
Make a piece of art with your friends or family. Share it with imagine@thelibrary.org.
Draw or paint a self portrait.
Take a sculpture walk or mural walk in Downtown Springfield and take some selfies with your favorites.
Create a vision board for your goals.
Read a book with a color in the title.
Check out new music from Hoopla.
Write a poem.
Draw something that you see in nature and send it to imagine@thelibrary.org.
Volunteer with an organization in your community.
Read a YA book, then watch the movie.
Upcycle a piece of clothing.
Read a book that’s different from what you usually choose. Try a new genre, format or author!
Make a list of places you’d like to visit. Use a library resource like a book or a database to research one of them.
Use Your Next Read on the library website to get personalized book suggestions from your librarians.
Check out a cookbook and make dinner for your family or friends. Send a photo of your dish to imagine@thelibrary.org.
Read a book about a famous artist.
Learn a new artistic hobby — try one of the workshops offered by the library this summer.
Add one of your books to a “Little Free Library.”
Check out a book with your favorite color on the cover.
Try a project from Creativebug, available at thelibrary.org.
