Donate Books & Support the Library

Donating your gently used books and materials helps support Library programs and services through the Friends of the Library’s twice-yearly book sales. Since 1985, the Friends have raised more than $6 million to benefit the Library while connecting thousands of readers with affordable books and materials.

How to Donate

At this time, the Friends of the Library can only accept donations from Greene County. We appreciate the generosity of nearby communities, but because we already receive many local donations, we ask that libraries, school districts, and other organizations outside Greene County refrain from sending materials.

If possible, we encourage donors to bring materials to the Friends of the Library Sorting Room at the Midtown Carnegie Branch Library, 397 E. Central St., on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m.–1 p.m. Donations may also be dropped off at any library branch during regular library hours. Donors may request a receipt from library staff listing the number and type of materials donated.

At the Library Center, donations should be placed inside the green shed at the northeast corner of the building. Please note that the shed is secured nightly and may close earlier than the Library building. If the shed is locked, please ask staff for assistance at (417) 882-0714.

If you have a large collection or a unique donation situation, please call (417) 616-0554 to discuss donation options.
