Write it Down!

By preschool age, many children have a desire to write, especially if they have been around a lot of words. Now is a great time to help your little one practice her emerging writing by giving her plenty of paper, pencils or crayons, and time to practice. What should she write? Anything she is interested in. Notes to family members, letters to friends, lists of favorite things and original stories are things kids are excited to write about. Her writing may still look like scribbles or simple shapes and that is ok. The more she learns about letters the more she will try to make her marks look like them. For now, treat her writings like the important documents they are. A special notebook or clipboard may be just the thing to encourage her to keep writing. You will have an author on your hands before you know it!

Apple Tree

Way up high in the apple tree, (raise arms overhead)

Two little apples smiled at me. (make hands into fists and shake)

I shook the tree as hard as I could. (mimic shaking tree)

Down came the apples and mmmmm... (lower fists to the ground)

They were good! (rub tummy)
