This parttime position at the Library Center is scheduled for approximately 20-24 hours per week and pays $10.02 per hour. The position will be posted until the application deadline of August 8.
Applicants must be available to work any hours the library is open. .
Job Responsibilities
The Copy Cataloger is under the direction of the Department Manager. Responsibilities include cataloging library materials using OCLC bibliographic records, assigning Dewy Decimal numbers and other identifying information.
Essential Functions
• Timeliness: Since employees in this position work with other staff, Copy Catalogers must be punctual and timely in arriving to work and completing tasks. Copy Catalogers must also be capable of working all of the hours in their assigned shift.
• Ability to work with others and the general public: Copy Cataloger jobs are interdependent and mutually dependent regarding other job categories. Therefore, it is essential that individuals who work in this position have the ability to work and interact in a cooperative, pleasant, and constructive manner with others.
• Corrects errors in bibliographic and holdings records in local database.
• Transfers and reclassifies previously cataloged materials according to library procedures
• Adds and deletes materials within the local system
• Catalogs via The OCLC Network
• Issues monthly report to the Department Manager
Education/Experience
• Minimum of 60 College hours
• Technical Service experience including, experience with OCLC catalog system, basic cataloging rules and principles, MARC formats, and Dewey Decimal classification and Innovative automation is preferred
Skills/Job Knowledge
• Advanced computer and keyboard skills
• Knowledge of Innovative cataloging
• Knowledge of Dewey Decimal cataloging
• Ability to perform detailed online tasks with a high degree of accuracy and minimum supervision
• Excellent communication skills, oral and written
• Ability to interact pleasantly, constructively and cooperatively with library staff and outside contacts.
• Ability to work independently, with limited supervision
Responsibilities
• Searches for, reviews and edits, records from and enters bibliographic vendor's database into the library's computer catalog according to library specifications and local cataloging rules and imports into the library's database; checks new record for accuracy.
• Prepares library materials received and entered into the system for physical processing by generating labels and insuring materials are forwarded to processors.
• Assists with processing material orders by editing bibliographic records and verifying holdings.
• Maintains accuracy of database.
• Catalogs materials for the local library system
• Catalogs materials for the Christian County Library
• Prepares monthly reports of all activities for Department manager
• Performs work duties in pleasant, constructive and cooperative manner
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands
• Performs bending, squatting, kneeling and reaching from floor level to 6 feet in height.
• Occasional lifting of supplies, print materials weighing up to 40 lbs.
• Extended time seated doing computer keyboarding and desk work.
Working Environment
• Primarily indoors with heating and cooling regulated in a general library environment.
Miscellaneous Requirements
• Must be able to pass a security background check, if applicable.
