What is the Spook Light?

The Spook Light is an unexplained phenomenon that occurs on various country road southwest of Joplin, Missouri, near the Oklahoma border. It is sometimes known as the "Hornet Spook Light", after the small town of Hornet nearby. Other sources refer to it as the "Devil's Promenade". There are many legends concerning the origin of the light; some believe that the light is of supernatural origin; others believe that it has a more scientific explanation.

The Local History and Genealogy Department at the Library Center maintains an information file on the Spook Light with a number of newspaper and magazine articles.
